Candidate Biographies

Pete Holmgren (Water Utility)

I have worked for the City of Madison (Water) as an Engineer since 2010. I also grew up and attended college locally, and it has been very rewarding for me to remain in Madison as a public servant and employee representative. In 2022 I was elected to the MPSEA Board and have rotated through a range of roles therein - most recently Vice President. I’m proud of what our association has accomplished and am interested in extending these important duties for my colleagues with another 3-year term on the Board. MPSEA membership includes a large and diverse group of people with a variety of interests and concerns. We have all benefited from the committed representation of the MPSEA through the years. From compensation/benefits to general policies, working conditions, and everything in between, it would be my pleasure to help make sure that we may continue to have a strong voice and equitable consideration on the issues that impact all of us. Thank you all for the opportunity.

Scott Korth (Metro Transit)

My name is Scott Korth and I have been with the City of Madison for over 19 years, all of which with Metro’s Finance Department. My positions and responsibilities have grown over the years, but my location hasn’t change much, as I’m basically in the same chair. I started as the Transit Finance Supervisor, moved to various Accounting positions and now I’m the Transit Grants Administrator. In my roles, I’ve had the opportunity to work with multiple departments within the City like Engineering and the Mayor’s Office and many outside organizations. I believe this experience has provided perspective on the City organizational structure, including the different comp groups and relationships with unions like the Teamsters. I decided to run for the MPSEA board to continue in the efforts of wage parity, especially with the on-going compensation study by HR and work to improve our ability to protect and enhance our pay and benefits, which with budget concerns seem to be a point of contention on a regular basis. I’d also like to be a resource and help employees navigate working in the City as MPSEA has done for me throughout my career.

Alyssa Riphon (Department of Civil Rights)

My name is Alyssa Riphon and I would like to submit my name for consideration for the MPSEA Board. I have been with the City of Madison’s Department of Civil Rights for 12 years, currently serving as an Equal Opportunities Investigator. In this role, I work to uphold workplace protections and ensure fair treatment for employees, drawing on my extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal civil rights laws in employment. Over the past year, I have seen firsthand the important work MPSEA does to support and protect its members, and I would like to contribute to that mission. I believe my experience in investigations, policy analysis, and advocacy would allow me to be an effective voice on the Board.
